Tourism for
Indonesia
How
important is tourism for Indonesia? In my opinion, very. There are a lot, I
mean A LOT of beautiful places that is waiting to be discovered, more than
17.000 islands and the second longest shoreline in the world with 300 different
ethnic groups and 250 distinct languages, so what is not to like about those
amazing numbers. The vast country of sprawling archipelago has much to offer; from
natural beauty, historical heritage to cultural diversity. In 2012 the tourism
sector made an income of roughly US$9 billion of foreign exchange, and is
estimated to increase to US$10 in 2013. In 2015, 10.41 million international
tourists entered Indonesia, and is ranked 5th among countries such
as Japan, China, Malaysia, Singapore and Australia.
For centuries, Indonesia have
been a travel destination for foreigners, especially today, where Indonesia is growing
more and more popular, but I think Indonesia has already been popular for
tourists since the 1950’s or even the 40’s, because of the rich source for
spices and other useful materials that the westerns hasn’t got back in their
home countries. If I had to choose one place that is worth visiting Indonesia
for, I will pick Jogjakarta. Why? You may ask, well simply because it’s
gorgeous and it held one of 7 wonders of the world, I believe it’s the Candi
Borobudur and like the country itself, there are a lot of places that is still
waiting to be discovered.
